Not only that, but Yogyakarta has magnificent views with Merapi mountains and beautiful green fields called ‘sawah’ (rice fields) and beaches (e.q. Parangtritis). Another popular temple in Yogyakarta is ‘Candi Prambanan’ located not far from ‘Candi Borobudur’.

The people in Yogyakarta are very friendly and will be helping you in almost all circumstances. They have very humble hearts and innocent in their own ways.

For all shopping lovers, I would recommend you to go to Malioboro, which is not very far from ‘Keraton’. It is the central of all small shops and malls. Remember, you must negotiate with them with the price attached on the clothes or bags. Sometimes they can offer you high prices, but usually it will be lower than what malls or supermarket offered.

While you are traveling in Yogyakarta, why not try one of their unique vehicles called ‘Becak’, a three wheels cart with bicycle behind it, driven by a man. Another exceptional vehicle is called ‘Andong’, a cart pulled by horses/ a horse and usually more expensive because it is intended for tourists.

Recommended Sites to Visit :

1. Candi Borobudur

One of ancient monument according to history and is in fact one of the seventh wonders of the world! According to research, it was built around eighth century under authority of King Samaratungga from Syailendra dynasty who ruled Central Java at that time. It is yet still undiscovered about how she was built, and how long it takes to built her because there is no written history found.

Candi Borobuder consists of hundreds of temples, with artistic drawings around the walls of Candi Borobudur.

I have been told that if you can reach the statue inside the temple, you can wish whatever you want. However, it is very unlikely that you can touch it, but you still can try. I am not sure whether the story was true or not.

2. Taman Sari

Tamansari is located approximately 400 m from ‘Keraton’, about ten minutes walk to birds market from ‘Kemandungan Selatan’.
Tamansari means beautiful garden, where accoding to history is the recreation place for King of Yogyakarta and his fellows. It is usually open from 8 am to 4 pm.
