Travel News: Dubai the next largest airport

You have probably heard about the world’s most expensive hotel in Palm islands, Dubai (man-made island) that is called ‘The Burj al-Arab hotel’. This is not the only project that captivated the whole world in the middle east, the next largest airport is coming and is already under construction.
Dubai is going to open the next largest airport in the world, targeting 120 000 passengers in a year. The estimated cost of building the airport is said to be $US33 billion ($A42.81 billion).
Not only that the airport in Dubai will be expected to be the largest cargo hub with capacity of 12 million tones annually. So far the one runway has almost been completed and the other five runways will soon be finishing in year 2008. This large airport is part of Dubai World Central (DWC) mega-project. It is expected to cover 140 square kilometres and feature a regional logistics hub.
Khalifa al-Zafeen, chief engineer in Dubai’s aviation authority said, “Once the work is complete, this airport will be larger than any airport we know”
