Tips for Budget Road-Trip
I’ve been travelling a lot with my husband throughout Australia and New Zealand via road-trip. Travelling with car has been one of my best experiences I’ve had because we’re able to make stops anytime we want without any hassels and enjoy the beautiful landscape during the journey. We usually follows the guide below:

1. PLAN the trip carefully
Plan ahead of time before date of travel by doing research of when is the best time to travel, when is the off-peak time, where is the best places to visit in particular area, what kind of facilities do they provide and what kind of events held in particular country.
This is one of the most significant element for your journey. If possible, don’t do it by hand but type it on a computer and print them out.
The itinerary includes when, what is the exact time and date you want to travel, how long is the trip, the arrival date/time, the hotel/motel details including phone numbers, what kind of events you want to attend, and what are the famous landscape in that particular area of interest.
The purpose is so you’ll a clear view of the trip and so you can make it in time for the event and not get lost in the long journey. This may look similar like typical tour-guide itinerary.
3. Make a Hotel/Motel comparison
Sometimes some hotels can offers special deal; which makes it cheaper in comparison to motels. So it is worth it to search the best deal in town and compares them to your motel. If it only a little bit difference, take a hotel room because they usually offers a better quality of room.
Internet rates usually are cheaper than travel agents.
Some of good websites you can search when travelling to Australia; www.budgetmotelchain.com.au, www.goldchain, www.ratestogo.com.au
4. Make a BOOKING!
As soon as you have found out the best deals of accommodation, make a booking! A last-minute deals usually allows you to make a booking within a month of travel. So be the first person to book, don’t wait before it’s too late!
5. Revise your Itinerary
After you make a booking, revise your itinerary by adding the hotel details to your itinerary. Including the hotel voucher and its contact details and prices of the room.
6. Don’t Forget to bring SNACKS
Bring lots of water and snacks such as biscuits or lollies for the long trip. It is much cheaper to buy them in local supermarket than at the petrol stations.
7. PACK your stuff
Bring necessary amount of clothes, underwear, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, etc. You may bring your own towel, but the hotel/motel usually provide them for you.
8. Bring MAP/GPS
If you own a gps, it is better to insert your travel data into your GPS before travelling.
9. Bring your PHOTOGRAPHY equipments
It is part of important thing, since you want to memorise your holiday moments. Apart from cameras, you can bring folded chairs, beach towel, beach umbrella, etc.
10. Make A CHECKLIST
Last but not least, you can make a check list of things that you need to bring. Starts from your itinerary, important documents like hotel vouchers, local currency, clothes, etc.
NOW you are ready to have a ROAD-TRIP. Enjoy your journey!
