About Table Mountain

Table Mountain is a sandstone plateau rising up above the Cape Flats.
The top is approximately 3km wide, and at its highest point,Maclears Beacon, rises to 1085m.
Over the centuries it has become one of South Africa’s most famous landmarks.

The steep cliffs and rocky outcrops of the mountain play home to a number of plants and animals. The mountain is home to approximately 1470 species of plants; more than the entire British Isles!

Complimenting this vast array of flora is a stunning range of fauna, some, like the Table Mountain Ghost Frog, being found in no other place in the world.

Travelchili from Europe recommend to go to table mountain. She gave four and a half star. She commented,

“I decided to conquer the Table Mountain in a harder, but for me in a more exciting way - by hiking. There are several hikes that take you up to the Table Mountain - some a bit more demanding than others, but in general, you have to be in shape (at least to some extent) to do it. I chose the route that starts from the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden - in this case you can combine a day of hiking and looking around in those beautiful gardens, too!

Mariana from Table Mountain also rated Table Mountain with four and a half rating. She suggested,

“Climbing Table mountain with its various hiking trails can be very rewarding, but please do not even try and do it on your own. Make sure you go with a hiking club or else with extremely experienced hikers as the weather can change quickly and the routes can be difficult. The one thing you will be rewarded with is lovely views over Campsbay like this one.”

Collin from Johannesburg, ZA gave four rating and a half as well. He said,

“Table Mountain in my opinion is a land mark , that marks Cape Town. Cape Town is situated at the base of the mountain as in my photo in my introductory page. Well there is 2 ways up the mountain , you can either hike up well marked trails or you can go by cable car. Either way you just have to go ontop of that mountain. When up there you`ll know why I say you gotta get up there. The view is absolutely beautiful. There is various restaurants ontop of the mountain and in my opinion , have breakfast or lunch before you go to the top because I found it very expensive to go and have to eat in those restaurants. Never the less you just gotta make this one of your stops. Rates are as follows: Adults = R110.00 (return) R57.00 (one way) Students with valid student card R80.00 (return) , R40.00 (one way) SA Pensioners = R58.00 (return) , R30.00 (one way) Children Under 18 yrs R58.00 (return) , R30.00 (single) Family Ticket (2 Adults & 2 Children U 18) R280.00 (return) “
