Glacier Bay national park for example is a refugee from the ice ages: tidewater glaciers calving into frigid seas, cliff-flanked fjords and plants creeping up scoured valleys where glaciers retreated. A charter excursion is great way to see Alaska’s famous glaciers.

Weather
It is most likely going to rain and during summer solstice the sun will be above the horizon for 18 hours and 18 minutes. The weather is cool, with midsummer highs in low 60s.

How to get to Glacier Bay
Thousands of the park’s visitors pass through on cruise ships. But if you’re planning to stay awhile, you can head over on a water taxi or small plane from Juneau, 50 miles to the east. In early June 2004, Alaska Airlines will start its seasonal 737 jet service to Gustavus, putting the park just a hop, skip and puddlejump from Seattle, Juneau or Anchorage. There is no service from the Alaska Marine Highway ferry.
7-night Alaska Cruises start from $749 per person according to experts2alaska.

Dog-sled rides are also available on glaciers. The huskies’ teams and handlers are already on thee glacier to demonstrate the features of sleds and escort the visitors on a safe trail. The rides are available in the summer at Juneau, Skagway and Seward. Look for helicopter traffic.

“Spent 2 weeks in the great country of Alaska in August of 2004. I have been to many places in the USA but this is not a state it is a country that was better than I could have dreamed, breathtaking and beautiful. We started in Anchorage. Boarded train to Denali. Drove to Katisna Roadhouse. Bush plane tour of Mt.Mckinley on return to Train to Talketta. Salmon fished. Boarded train to back to Anchorage. Plane to Junea. Van ride to Glacier Bay. Boat to Glacier and surronding area. Plane back to Junea. Boat thru Wrangell Narrows, Tracy Arm, LeConte Glacier, with stops at Wrangell and Petersburg. Completing our tour in Ketchican. Everything was outstanding. The hotel in Peterburg was not up to the standard as the rest of our trip. it was the only disappointment of our trip.
